5S is a methodology for organizing spaces so work can be performed efficiently, effectively, and safely. This system focuses on putting everything where it belongs and keeping the workplace clean and clutter free, while making it easier for people to do their jobs without wasting time or risking injury. 5S stands for Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize and Sustain. These 5 words are the framework to implement and maintain the 5S program.

Global-Pak began the process of implementing 5S in February of this year, starting with training all employees. Following the training were projects in both the office and warehouses. Below are some of the results of a few of the projects.

A clean, clutter-free, safe, and well-organized dock area:

A storage area that is clutter-free with bins that are labeled to make it easier to find and put things back, before and after 5S:

In addition to the above projects, we are also implementing an inventory management system that will allow for real-time inventory adjustments. This will be facilitated with hand-held scanners used by our warehouse employees.  

There has been a lot of great work done to date! We have built some momentum and are planning on completing the implementation this year. The work will never truly be complete, as the true benefits come from sustaining what we have finished and building from there.
