Global-Pak & the Coronavirus

As the Coronavirus continues to impact individuals and businesses around the world, Global-Pak is remaining proactive in our approach to satisfying our customers’ needs. No one could have predicted the economic situation caused by the virus, but we began taking steps to reduce the effects as early as we could. When the concern of the virus’ spread began in early February, our team had a meeting to discuss bringing in extra stock inventory incase the impact of the Coronavirus became a widespread issue, which it did. The resulting uncertainty in the markets with the additional concern over the health and safety of employees, customers, and manufacturers caused many companies to shut down, but Global-Pak is an essential business due to the food and chemical industries we serve. Throughout the virus, we have remained fully functioning while making some adjustments to procedures to keep our employees safe and healthy.

Due to shutdowns in many of our manufacturing partners countries, we altered sources for our orders to ensure we could supply our customers with the bags they needed. This involved shifting some items around to other manufacturers who can remain open. Our supplier diversity has allowed us to source bags for customers and provide them with the products they need when they need them. 

Even without a virus to contend with, purchasing from overseas vendors presents challenges due to the timeframe we need to order. While planning and placing orders, we are not buying for next week or next month nor are we buying for just what was sold yesterday to replace stock. We are looking at trends over the last several years to try to determine what is needed 4-5 months down the road. Our team tries to take every scenario into account when planning for future needs. 

We have worked tirelessly to develop the best plan moving forward that lets us deliver our products to our customers as quickly and efficiently as possible. Nobody could anticipate all the challenges presented by a global pandemic, and our purchasing team has shown flexibility and strength at overcoming any obstacles we have met along the way. Our company is in constant contact with our vendors to adjust production schedules as needed. We are using zoom meetings to communicate daily with our partners and have ensured that our priority orders will be shipped in a timely manner. If one thing is certain in this time of uncertainty, it’s that Global-Pak will continue to work with our vendors to ensure availability of inventory, and make sure our customers get the products they need on time.
