Bulk bags are a very popular product for storing and shipping bulk flowable products. This is due to the rising cost of gaylord boxes, small paper alternatives, and the versatility and minimal storage space requirements of bulk bags. If you are handling fine powdery products or products sensitive to moisture or contamination, you may want to consider a bulk bag with a liner. Liners in bulk bags can prevent fine materials from leaking and stop contaminates from encountering the product. These liners can be installed directly in your bulk bag during the production process, which saves significant time compared to inserting it prior to filling the bag.

When the use of a liner makes sense for your product, there are a few options to consider: 



Form fit liners are produced to take exact shape of the bag. This would include the top panel, bottom panel, and fill/ discharge spouts, if the bag has them. Form fit liners increase overall performance during the fill and discharge process and maximize use of space in the bag. They do not have any pleats or folds that could restrict the product from flowing in or out of the bag.



Tubular liners, or gusseted liners, are constructed in a tubular shape rather than formed to the shape of the bag. Tubular liners as well as form fit liners can come with the bottom sealed or unsealed depending on your discharge requirements. Tubular liners are pre-installed with the liner being tied close with the discharge spout. Tubular liners are more cost efficient compared to a form fit liner but do not utilize space as well as a tubular liner. 



Foil Liners are made from 3-4 layers of different materials that are bonded together with adhesives and polyethylene. The layer of aluminum offers a high level of protection which gives foil liners the lowest moisture and oxygen transmission rate for flexible packaging. Groundable Liners, commonly called L1 liners, are made from a blend of polyethylene and carbon black materials. They are used in Type C fibc’s and prevent combustible events from occurring.



Antistatic liners, commonly called L2 liners, are produced with antistatic resins which dissipate static discharge. L2 liners are necessary when the product or environment in which the bag is utilized is combustible. They have largely replaced the older style L1 liners due to their reliability and the fact that the human element of grounding the liner properly is removed from the equation. These can be produced in form fit or tubular style constructions. 



High Temperature liners are produced from resins which have a higher melting point, such as metallocene and polypropylene and are necessary when the product being packaged is bagged at a higher temperature. These liners can be produced with antistatic resins to satisfy the requirements of an L2 liner and can also be made in either form fit or tubular designs.
