Everyone of is starting to feel and see the effects of freight and transportation on their bottom lines. As we grow, we often get caught up in the business and forget to review the details. Recently, we evaluated our operations to examine costs and efficiencies, and realized we had some room for improvement within Global-Pak’s transportation department.

As we investigated our delivery cost per mile and truck routing, we realized we let our focus on excellent customer service start to hinder our ability to use our resources wisely. By pushing next-day or same-day delivery service (sometimes when it was not needed,) we broke our regular truck schedule and began to create an inefficiency in shipping. This pushed the cost of operating our trucks to over $3.00 per mile and created a lot of extra fuel usage and miles on the vehicles. To keep our costs low to our customers, we need to get back to our schedule (pictured below) and reserve those same-day or next-day shipping for the emergencies for which they were intended.

We will continue to focus on delivering the excellent customer service we pride ourselves on, but hope moving back to our schedule will continue to keep costs low – especially during a time of inflation. We value our partnerships with every customer and will continue with the required shipment of stock products within the maximum 5 days of entry, and we will still deliver as needed. Our team will request delivery for our next trip to your area, and in the spirit of partnership we ask that you may try to group orders together and allow enough lead time so we can fill out trucks and route them efficiently. If a scenario occurs where it is not efficient to use our trucks, we will consider LTL carriers as an alternative.

Global-Pak will always put the customer first, and if a product is needed quickly, we will get it to you as soon as possible. We also want to encourage efficiency and ensure costs are being managed properly, so we can offset some of the inflation and transportation costs occurring at this time.
